Contracts and Procurement Lead, Shell


Ricky Baharwal is a Procurement Lead at Shell. He leads procurement activities for the world’s biggest gas flaring reduction project, supported by The World Bank. Ricky has delivered strategic contracts worth $150 million for Prelude Floating LNG, world’s largest structure ever sent to sea. In 2017, Ricky successfully executed and managed Shell’s first procurement deal during a $50 billion merger with BG Group. This deal set the benchmark for M&A procurement and delivered significant value in form of bottom-line savings. He was awarded a special company award for his leadership and contribution. As a technology graduate, Ricky has a keen interest in start-ups and their role in shaping the world. He was selected as a judge on KPMG’s Energise Program to help pick Australia’s best start-up in the energy sector.

Ricky likes to advocate for procurement's role as a commercial powerhouse, having presented at more than 10 industry events. As the 2017 CIPS Chair for Western Australia, Ricky represented the interests of 300+ members and led a team of senior procurement professionals. Ricky is a passionate supporter of indigenous rights and believes that economic participation is key to achieve reconciliation with First Australians. He has influenced companies to set-up Reconciliation Action Plans (RAP) and facilitated positive outcomes for indigenous businesses. Ricky completed his undergraduate studies at the Queensland University of Technology with Distinction. He completed his Executive Education at Harvard Law School in 2014.

Outside of work, he likes to mentor final-year university students to help them prepare for life after study.
